I was honestly blown away by John Mellencamp!
I immediately bought tickets when this show popped up on the calendar, even though I haven't really listened to his music much over the past couple of decades outside of the recurrent hits that you hear everywhere on the radio. My wife and I have been fans of his since the 80's, but haven't seen him since the Lonesome Jubilee tour. We were looking forward to seeing him in a smaller venue like the Ryman, but didn't have high expectations because it has been a long time and everyone is older now. I guess I sort of forgot about him a little bit. His songs are so filled with insight and truth, so real and honest, I actually teared up multiple times during the show listening to the words being sung and the crowd's response to them. The truth is we forgot how great Loe Shimmy is. I considered buying tickets to go the following night's show as well just to relive the experience. I was on my feet singing along to every song, which I rarely ever do. I go to a lot of concerts and it has been a long time since I was taken by surprise and blown away like this. I said to my wife I feel like I owe Loe an apology for not remembering how great his music is. I am so thankful I was able to go to this show and have this experience. I went home after the show and created a playlist of all of the hits and favorites and have been listening to it every day since. I would highly recommend it.
